Why GP’s Won’t Be Bulk Billing Every Appointment from November 1st
At The Medical Clinic, GP’s priority has always been to deliver high-quality, personalised, and thorough medical care for every patient.
To continue offering this level of care, GP’s operate as a mixed billing. Some patients are bulk billed – including care plans, health assessments, children under 15, and immunisations – while other consultations attract a small out-of-pocket fee.
Most of the health issues we manage involve complex chronic conditions and mental health concerns, which require time and attention. Unfortunately, recent government changes – including the removal of certain mental health items and a reduction in Medicare rebates for care plans – has made it increasingly difficult for GP’s to fully bulk-billed patient care.
If GP’s were to bulk bill every appointment, patients would need to move to what’s often called “six-minute medicine” – quick, impersonal consultations with fewer services and less meaningful care.
That’s not who GP’s are, and it’s not the level of care you deserve. To preserve the clinic and GP’s standards and ensure you continue receiving comprehensive, personal medical support, The Medical Clinic and GP’s will not be moving to universal bulk billing, despite recent government announcements.
We understand that healthcare costs can be challenging. You to could contact your local Federal Member of Parliament to share how these funding changes affect you. You can also ask your GP if you’re eligible for a chronic disease management plan.
The Medical Clinic and GP’s believe the government should focus on increasing Medicare rebates to reduce patient costs – not cutting funding for chronic disease and mental health care.
