An Iron infusion is a procedure which involves an IV cannula to be placed into a vein, in order for the iron to administered directly into your blood stream.

Your doctor may recommend one If you have low iron, also known as iron deficiency.

Receiving iron via an infusion helps to replenish your iron levels quickly, especially If you are unable to tolerate liquid or oral iron supplements.

Before your iron infusion, you will be seen by the doctor and nurse to explain the procedure and answer any questions you may have.

You should allow 1-1.5 hours for the infusion.

Depending on the reason for the iron infusion and your iron store levels, you will require a follow up blood test to assess the absorption and maintenance of your iron levels.

This is patient centred and needs to be discussed with your GP

It is $155.00 with a $82.90 Medicare rebate, leaving you out of pocket $72.10.

In addition, there is a fee for the Treatment room.
